if i have a ds, i would definitely have a pokemon game. Pokemon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum because I think that pokemon is the best rpg game ever made. You can also save up your money and buy the upcoming Final Fantasy IV game. I love Final Fantasy remakes!

The Sims Urbz is a great game for Nintendo DS. It's really fun and it sounds like a game you would like. In the game, you can explore the town and make friends, buy a house and furnish it the way you want, and perform various missions. It's really fun and addicting!! :)

For the DS, I would recommend:
New Super Mario Bros. It's a fun game that anyone can play.
The Legendary Stary. It's an easy game to work your way up to harder ones.
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Now, this is a more advanced game. If you find yourself playing the previous two wanting more, I would suggest this one.
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl. It may seem a little childish depending on who you ask, but trust me, this game has a lot of depth and things to really challenge you.
Professor Layton and the Curious Village. It has tons of great puzzles to challenge you.
Tetris DS. Everybody loves Tetris.
Kirby: Canvas Curse. I actually haven't gotten around to buying this one, but I hear it's great and Kirby has always been pick up and play for anyone.
Mario Kart DS. If you want a good, fun, quirky racing title, this is it.
Space Invaders Extreme. It puts an artistic and musical twist on a classic

Hope this helps.

And for anyone else looking for other great games, try:
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (rated M)
WarioWare: Touched
Elite Beat Agents
Metroid Prime: Hunters
Contra 4
Mairo and Luigi: Partners in Time
Super Mario 64 DS
Final Fantasy IV
