I am either going to get Warhammer 40,000 Gold Edition (which comes with dawn of war and dawn of war-winter assault) or the PLATINUM edition (which comes with those two and the newer dark crusade game).

So are these games too old or is the community for them rich? And also, do they have those fun custom-type games like warcraft and starcraft do?

And if not to all these questions, what was also on my mind was rome:total war gold edition. How is that game?

And what about Company of Heroes? I know that is fun but if i get that, i will only be able to get the game of the year and not the expansion.

This game is really fun it does have an Online games but no custom games. Sorry.

Company of heroes is also fun. It has a nice texture and realistic to it. You can blow up bridges, blow up random buildings, set up tons of World war 2 defenses.
