Happy to help a fellow PC gamer. Once you install The Pitt, either via download from Windows Live or by purchasing the retail CD, it will be up and running on your game every time you load. You can turn it on or off using the launcher (fallout3launcher.exe) by checking or unchecking the box under Data Files, but there's no reason to do that unless you absolutely hate the expansion after trying it.

Once you start your game with The Pitt loaded, whether a new game or an old save, within a few seconds a message will appear indicating you've discovered a new radio station. Listening to the message on the radio using your PipBoy will start a new quest and point to a location on your map far to the north near Fort Constantine. Once there you'll find out how to ride the train to The Pitt, which will be on a separate map. Once you complete the quests in The Pitt you'll be free to travel back and forth.

Operation: Anchorage is similar in that you receive a radio signal and must go to a new location on the map to begin the quest, which takes place in virtual reality, on a separate map. You can only go through the simulation once per character. (I despise Operation: Anchorage, was bored immediately, and find the new weapons and armor do not fit into the Fallout 3 wasteland at all, and I don't even load it any more.)

Broken Steel extends the main quest, removes the ending so you can explore forever, allows you to gain experience to level 30, and adds new locations both in the Wasteland and a couple new ones with their own maps.

Point Lookout places a paddleboat at the mouth of the Potomac river which sends you to a huge new map full of new NPC's, enemies, and quests. It's the biggest and best DLC out there besides Broken Steel.

Your followers can go with you anywhere in Broken Steel, but you'll have to take on every other DLC alone. In fact before you enter The Pitt, you'll be stripped down to rags and barely armed.

The best part of the expansions is getting back to the Wasteland with tons of loot, new perks, new skills, and new gear no one else has and going nuts on the enemies. I took The Mauler from The Pitt to Point Lookout and came back with the Superior Defender Perk and I am unstoppable. 65 damage per hit and it just keeps spinning and spinning.

I really love all the gear in The Pitt. I just wish there were quests for every bit of it instead of just collecting 100 ingots. The Metal Blaster is amazing, Tribal Power Armor the best looking in the game IMHO, and like I said, The Mauler...
