for me i'd go for sims or elder scroll but that's only for me..

Each one of those games are leaders in their specific genera. Personal opinion, I enjoyed the Elder Scrolls series the best. The mod community is very active with those games and it feels like you can make the game continue to evolve with new lands, weapons, features and gameplay.
