I'm 16 years old, and my mom isn't allowing me to play call of duty. She's really strict, and when I was a kid, she wouldn't let me buy nerf guns and water guns.
I know a lot of you adults out there are going to say "good for your mom," but i seriously can't stand this restricted lifestyle anymore. it's impossible for someone my age to have any fun playing games like wii sports and mariokart, which can be entertaining for some time, but are meant for like 6 year olds anyway. I was also restricted from purchasing airsoft guns with my own money when I was 13-14 years old. This prevented me from playing and having fun with all my other friends who USED to airsoft. Now it's the same thing....just with COD.
I've almost got my driving license too, and i think i'm beyond mature enough to be able to get call of duty. It's just her argument is that she has morals and every other parent doesn't, but I don't see how you can take a video game made for entertainment purposes so seriously, when all the killing is virtual, computer bots. I would NEVER!!!!!!!! never never never kill someone out on the street...I can't even kill a bug without feeling guilty.
Also too, I am allowed to watch rated "R" movies which is the exact same rating as "M" for a video game. Both ratings prohibit anyone under the age of 17 (i'm 16) from buying the game or watching the movie independently without parental consent. I try to explain to her that just like the movies me and my parents enjoy and find entertaing (star wars and the Bourne series) include violence and death, but are still great quality movies that they enjoy despite this virtual "immorality." Also, in these movies my mom says its the "bad guys" who are being killed, and the good guys prevail in the end, however in COD you can play as the nazis....On campaign mode, you play only as American, British and Russian soldiers who are fighting the nazis, japanese and central powers. In this campaign, the objective is to kill the nazis and japanese soldiers to eventually bring their cruel and power crazed Empires to an end. This goal is accomplished, and just like in any other pg-13 or R rated movie, the good guys prevail and defeat the bad guys.
so why shouldn't a 16 year old like myself be allowed to get call of duty, and what can i say to possibly win her over in an argument?
Just a side note...in order to buy a game like call of duty that is rated "M," you need to be 17 years old. I'm 16 and my mom won't let me get the game! Be honest, am I exaggerating here, or is this just ridiculous?
