My 80gb's fan is no longer working. This is the new model without BC and the extra ports etc. I use the fan like every week to clean out the dust inside the console. ( When u turn on the ps3 while holdin eject ) but yesterday I updated my ps3 to 2.80 and also later that day my mom directly shut off the console from the main plug. SO now my fan is no longer workin. Does that mean the fan broke or was it because of the update and is there any way to fix it. If there isnt what should I use to clean my ps3.

i don't think the update has anything to do with your fan not working, the best thing you could do is either call sony and ask if they can help or have any troubleshooting ideas. The fans you buy for playstation 3 clean the dust out but don't do anything else. they don't prevent it from overheating and causing the yellow light of death. it is a very pointless piece of Equipment. if the fan is broken i wouldn't replace it and use the money you would of spent on it on insurance due to that saving you a lot of money if the overheating problem occurs.

if it is the internal fan that is broken you must replace that before playing the ps3 for a long period of time. if you have insurance sony would replace the fan free of charge. whenn using playstation insurance on it is a must have.

shutting of the console from the main plug doesn't have any effect i do it all the time. how you turn the playstation of may have an effect. if the ps3 freezes hold the on/off button on the front for about 4 seconds till you hear a bleep then let go and it should restart.if you want to turn it off normally just hold the ps button on the controller.
