I can't get very far on this game, and I was wondering if there were any cheats. Also, how do you get past L9 W6?

Play as Luigi in single player mode:
At the "select a file" screen, keep pressed L and R buttons and choose one of your saved game files with the A button.
Now you'll play in the game as Luigi instead of Mario!

Secret Challenge Mode:
While paused on the map, press L R L R X X Y Y to enter the secret Challenge mode. You will now be unable to go back to an area that has scrolled off the screen while playing a level. This cheat only works after you finish the game.

Save Anywhere
To save your game anywhere on the map screen, beat the final castle in World 8. When you restart, you will have a star next to your save and you'll get the "Save" option added to your menu in the map screen.

1) Firstly, you can become Luigi in single-player mode. Pressing the L and R buttons (at the back of the DS) before you go onto the saved slot. Then press A, and you'll play as Luigi instead of Mario!
2) On World1, Level2, to get an extra shortcut, near the end of the level (just after that swinging log thing) jump up, above surface, get the extra special coin with a star on it, and go through that way. You will unlock the red exit.
3) To unlock World4, defeat Bowzer using Mini Mario. This also works for World7.
4) If you manage to get the green dot at the top of the flag at the end of a level, you get an extra life - or "one up" as they say.
5) If you get Giant Mario, then when you jump (A), press down and a lot of Goombas will fall down, which will give you more points, as you can kill them.
6) You can kill that guy in the clouds if you shoot him (you have to have Fire Mario - collect the Flower)
7) You can win Blue Koopa shells if you get the Red Toad House. This will give Mario a Blue shell on his back so he can slide like the green turtles. All you have to do is jump on the Blue Koopa.
8) Go to any world then press start and L,R,L,R,X,X,Y,Y a screen should come up saying "welcome to the secret Challenge mode.Think you can reach the goal? If you get stuck press start and choose return to map" you can not turn back. However, you have to have completed the whole game to play this.

Unfortunately, it isn't possible to play as Peach (yet) but I'm trying to find out how to....
