Does the PS3 or Xbox have better games?

People often say PS3 but Xbox games seem to have higher scores on metacritic for example e.g. mass effect, halo 3, gears of war series, forza motorsport, fable 2, left 4 dead etc.

i like the ps3 for killzone and infamous, but xbox has better games. Wide variety.

I've hear that Xbox has better games but a PS3 plays blue ray.
I'm planning on a new game system but am debating between the two.
I'm settling for a PS3 since it has blue ray plus it stills plays the PS1 & 2 games.

If you want games for single player -both
If you want games for multiplayer- PS3 because it has free multiplayer but a small community- xbox if you don't mind paying 5 dollars a month but want a large community
Amount/Better games- Xbox ( left 4 dead, gears of war,Halo)
