Xbox 360 RRoD and HDD question?

Postby jsxinda » Mon Jul 27, 2009 1:59 pm

About a year ago, I was looking for an Xbox 360 HDD on the cheap, so I went to a local used game store and bought one used for about $60. This is the only HDD I have had or used on my Xbox. Ever since then, my Xbox has been RRoDing like crazy, requiring constant repair. I've even tried swapping 2 of my friends' HDDs with mine ( so as to play my Rock Band 2 tracks ), and about after one day, one of my friends' Xbox RRoDed, and one month later, my other friend's Xbox RRoDs! Both have had their Xboxes for quite some time, longer than I have had mine, and have never experienced any problems with them prior to these RRoDs. This couldn't have been due to overheating, since one of my friend hardly ever plays his Xbox, and the other has his in a well ventilated room ( same as mine ). So, can my apparently faulty HDD ( mind you that I bought it a used game shop ) be the cause behind our "healthy" Xboxes experiencing the RRoD? Should I get a new one, and , if so, how can I transfer all my content and data from my current HDD to my new HDD? Thanks.

Hard drive problems can result in RRoD. In fact one of the troubleshooting steps tech support has you do before sending it in is take off the hard drive and see if your xbox will start.

Here is the part that makes no sense to me. You are saying that something passed from this hard drive to your console then on to your friends hard drives and then from those hard drives to their consoles. That I just can not buy as reasonable.

Keep in mind that RRoD is a general hardware failure code. It could be caused by lots of things.
