Will Wright. For those who do not know … He is the guy that a ton of titles with the word “Sim” created in him. In particular, “The Sims” that change the way players looked was God Games. Well, Mr. Wright is back and this time he has combined his love of simulations is an out-of-this-world creation tool, and a handful of different genres to create a game worthy of its reputation. What is described simply out of this technological primordial soup, in one word … “Spore”.
“Spore” is at its core, a god-game. You will guide your species through their existence, as you’ll try a shining example of Darwin’s motto, “Survival of the Fittest.” How you perform this task, where the game gets its charm.
You begin life as a tiny cell, swimming about, looking for food in meat and plant products with controls, the more “Pac-Man resemble a state-of-the-art PC technology. How do you eat in your living space fluid, you will find that you gain DNA. These building blocks of life work like money when it comes time to get your critter in something a bit stronger than a single cell to develop single-eyed blob. Evolve enough, and you will sprout from the water spring legs, and take the adventure on the land.
In the creature stage, you wander the countryside in search of prey, a mate and a warm nest to call your own. Much like the cell stage, you will gain DNA to develop while avoiding the large, aggressive animals that your living space. In the fight is not an option, you can return to the charm and try their hand with the ne’re-do-wells, which could crush easily be you. As you reach various stages of development, you will find that once your pea-sized brain is growing right along with you. Get smart enough and you’ll make a fire, build a hut and start the master of the stage.
Tribal life is more like on a real-time strategy than the more action environment of the past. She is responsible for collecting food and building structures, all in an effort to best the village on the block to be. Construction of new buildings is a must as they give you the development and application of new weapons and items to be either discarded or woo to allow your opponent.
Just as every civilization of our past, no matter how archaic it may be, technology and society is becoming much better organized as time progresses. This leads us to our last two stages, Civilization and Space. It’s hard to imagine that our small, single-cell spec is now part of a fully functioning city where you’ll now be able to convert and conquer other species to rule the world. Once you conquer the world is complete and your technique is at a peak, to build a flying saucer to explore other planets, and test your species could face the Galaxy.
When all is said and done, “Spore” game brings a whole new level of God. With its incredibly deep design tools, multiple genres of gameplay and hours of family-friendly fun, Will Wright has really proven himself worthy of his legendary status.
